    Surgical Legacy

Over 31 years of service, 50,000+ surgeries, and 30,000+ laparoscopic cholecystectomies reflect clinical commitment.

    Complete Journey

A detailed look at the milestones, choices, struggles, clinical courage, growth, values, and collective legacy behind Gupta Hospital & Research Centre.

    Roots: Humble Beginnings, Powerful Vision

The journey of Dr. A. K. Gupta began in the small village of Majalta, where life was simple and resources were limited.

There was nothing extraordinary about the background, except one belief:

From these humble beginnings emerged a vision, not merely to succeed, but to serve.

Hard work, discipline, and determination can shape destiny.

    Education: Discipline, Ethics, and Responsibility

In 1983, he joined Government Medical College Aurangabad to pursue MBBS, followed by MS in General Surgery, completed in 1991.

    These years instilled:

    • Clinical excellence
    • Ethical responsibility
    • Discipline and precision
    Skill without discipline is dangerous.

    Advanced Training & Surgical Exposure

From 1992 to 1994, he trained at Breach Candy Hospital, gaining exposure to world-class surgical systems.

    During this time:

This phase shaped his vision of structured, system-driven healthcare.

    • He trained in laparoscopic surgery under Dr. Tehemton E. Udwadia
    • He was associated with eminent surgeons including Dr. Shrikande

The Turning Point: Choosing Service Over Comfort

An opportunity to work abroad in Muscat offered a promising future.

Yet, guided by family values and a sense of responsibility, he chose to remain in India and serve his own people.

Choosing roots over riches builds institutions.

The Struggle: Building from the Ground Up

In 1994, upon returning, opportunities were limited. He began working in Pathankot, performing surgeries for patients from Kathua.

Encouraged by their trust, he took a bold step.

On 25th September 1995, he established a 5-bedded rented nursing home at Shaheedi Chowk, Kathua.

The early years were marked by financial constraints, limited infrastructure, and continuous challenges. But he persisted with:

    • Courage
    • Consistency
    • Commitment

Clinical Excellence: A Legacy of Surgical Mastery

Over 31 years of dedicated healthcare service in Kathua, Dr. Gupta has built an extraordinary surgical legacy.

    His surgical expertise spans:

    • 50,000+ surgeries performed
    • 30,000+ laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gallbladder surgeries)
    • Among the highest volumes in the region
    • General surgery
    • Women's surgical procedures
    • Emergency and life-saving interventions
In medicine, hesitation can cost a life; courage can save one.

    Defining Moments: Courage Under Pressure

There were moments that defined the institution.

These cases reflect not just skill, but clinical courage and responsibility.

    • A critically ill patient in postpartum shock saved through a rapid, high-risk emergency surgery
    • A near-lifeless patient following septic abortion revived through decisive intervention despite limited resources

Growth: From Nursing Home to Institution

In 2002, the hospital shifted to Kalibari, Kathua, expanding to a 50-bedded facility, later growing into a 100-bedded hospital.

    This growth was driven by:

    • Patient trust
    • Ethical practice
    • Consistent clinical outcomes

    COVID-19: A Test of Character

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when uncertainty and fear prevailed, Gupta Hospital continued to serve.

    • Critical patients were managed
    • Services remained operational
    • Lives were saved
    Crisis reveals character.

    Today: A Multi-Specialty Healthcare Institution

Today, Gupta Hospital stands as a comprehensive, multi-specialty healthcare center, providing:

    • 24x7 Emergency Services
    • 22-bedded ICU
    • Cath Lab & Coronary Care Unit
    • Dialysis Unit (21 machines)

    • Departments: Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Urology, Gastroenterology
    • Fully equipped laboratory & pharmacy

    The Transition: Hospital 2.0

    With growth comes responsibility.

A 5-bedded nursing home can run on goodwill; a 300-staff hospital requires systems, discipline, and accountability.

The institution is now transitioning to:

    • Cross-department teamwork
    • Zero tolerance for negligence
